measurements: approximately 1.50m (4’11”) between the opposite corners of the hexagonal and 1.3 metres (4’ 3”) wide across flats (a pair of parallel sides)
We believe this is the optimal size for a mother-to-be to enjoy the full benefit of using water for labour and/or birth. You can comfortably kneel, squat or sit
depth: 0.701 metres high (2 feet 4 inches). This is deeper than an average bath
weight: approximtely 750kg when filled holding approximately 750 litres /155 gallons
Always remember to follow our guidelines and the advice of your midwife
General Information for all pool hires:
Assembly
Blue Lagoon Pools are easy to assemble (about 10 minutes).
Positioning
Our pools are portable so you can position them where you want, prior to filling. We generally recommend the ground floor, but we can give you practical advice to help you make a decision on location.
General structural advice
If you are concerned about the weight loading for your floor we can give you practical advice on positioning your birthpool.
Just provide us with the relevant measurements of your floor - we have access to advice from a Structural Engineer.
It is worth knowing that we have never had any problems with weight loading since we started hiring out birth pools in 1992 - but, of course, at the end of the day the decision is yours.
Tap Adaptors
It is important to use the right one! We have a variety of adaptors that should work depending on the shape of your taps. We recommend you send us a photo to help us choose one for you. If your taps are particularly ‘bespoke’ and we are unable to provide one that will fit, you will need to either source one from a local DIY store - or - choose alternative taps to fill the pool from and simply use a longer length of hosepipe - making sure that all safety precautions are adhered to.
Heat retention
Unlike domestic baths, Blue Lagoon birth pools are well-insulated ; They retain their heat well, only losing an average of 1° every 3 hours. They can be easily topped up manually if the temperature drops slightly in use
